RESERVE YOUR ROOMS EARLY!!! The Magic City Classic is a the annual Football Game played at Legion Field in Birmingham between Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University, two of Alabama's most prominent historically black universities,. It includes a parade the morning of the game, a Battle of the Bands at halftime, as well as tailgaters all day long.
On a normal Magic City Classic weekend I can promise you that every hotel room in Birmingham's Downtown area will sell out for that game.
I repeat: RESERVE YOUR ROOM EARLY!!!
Due to the lack of hotel rooms, if you don't absolutely have to be in Birmingham that weekend, I would avoid it. Just schedule your visit for another weekend.
If you are going to be in Birmingham that weekend, try my Favorite Hotels first or in the Downtown area. If that doesn't work then look for a hotel along Interstates 65 or 459.
Something that most people who haven't been to Birmingham in a while may not know is that a lot of hotels and shopping centers have been built recently in the Bessemer area. That weekend it may be your best option. In fact it may be your ONLY option!
