It is amazing that the University of Alabama football games require so many hotel rooms in the Birmingham area to accommodate all of the fans that go to the games. Amazing but true! There aren't many hotels in the Tuscaloosa area and there is precious little to do there after the game is over... so people tend to stay in Birmingham instead. Particularly the older alumni and fans.
Which means that tourists need to be aware of Alabama's football schedule if you want to avoid the crowds on those weekends.
For those fans who are going to the game in Tuscaloosa, your best bet is to stay in one of the new hotels built in the Bessemer area. If they are full then try my Favorite Hotels first and then try to find a hotel along Interstate 459 working your way east thru the Hoover and Summit/280 areas and then North along I-65.
